The music program at Saint Stephen’s develops both individual technical precision and the shared listening required for ensemble play. Our students learn to read, interpret, and express musical works across historical periods and global traditions.
Regular performance opportunities in chapel services, assemblies, and formal concert halls teach students the focus and collaborative trust of live performance.
Orchestra & Band
Our youngest Falcons begin with simple instrumental, vocal and movement instruction. A rich world music drumming program deepens understanding of rhythms and of coordinated group performance for students from kindergarten through middle school.
As the students grow, early music education methodologies and ensembles progress to orchestral string studies for fourth grade students, and then wind instruments and percussion in band for fifth graders. Students in 6th-12th grade are offered many elective courses in instrumental performance to continue their enrichment. In the Middle and Upper Schools, the bands and orchestras perform regularly at school and community events, football games, adjudications, festivals, and showcase concerts.
Ensembles explore classical, film, and contemporary scores, performing in seasonal recitals and competing in state evaluation festivals.

Playing in an orchestra teaches you that you are responsible for your own part, but you only succeed if you are actively listening to everyone around you.
