Student Wellness

Nurturing the Whole Person

At Saint Stephen’s, we believe that academic excellence and emotional well-being are deeply interconnected. Our wellness program is designed to equip students with the self-awareness, resilience, and coping strategies needed to navigate the challenges of growing up.

From the lower school playground to college-preparatory environments in the Upper School, we support students through an active advisory system, dedicated counseling faculty, and developmental health courses that foster safe and supportive relationships.

The Advisory System

Every student in Grades 7 through 12 is placed in a small advisory group that meets regularly throughout the week. Led by a faculty mentor, the advisory serves as a touchstone for academic progress, social discussions, and personal check-ins.

Advisors partner closely with parents, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring that no child is anonymous on our campus.

Professional Counseling

Our full-time guidance and college counselors provide individual support, peer conflict resolution, and age-appropriate wellness workshops across all divisions.

We focus on proactive mental health education, helping students build healthy habits, manage stress, and practice positive communication in a safe environment.

Our waterfront campus provides quiet natural spaces for students to reflect, relax, and gather between classes.

Students Are Advocates for Wellness

Wellness at Saint Stephen’s isn’t only a program — students write about it. These pieces are student voices from The Gauntlet, the school’s award-winning student news magazine; each opens on ssesgauntlet.org.
