Program

The program relaunched in 2022 following a two-year hiatus and steadily built into a district champion in 2026 – the culmination of a remarkable story. The 2019 Falcons went 18-5 and set the tone for what was expected to be a dynamic 2020 season, but that campaign was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SSES did not field a team in 2021, but returned to the diamond as a developmental squad in 2022. The 2023 team played a limited varsity schedule, and the 2024-25 teams went a combined 19-15 before breaking through with a district title last season. It marked the hoped-for return to form for a squad that reached the regional playoffs in 2015 and 2018, and won four district titles in five seasons (2004-08). The program boasts alum Cassidy Whidden, who was named all-state as a freshman in 2008 and hit safely in every game as a junior when she batted .588. Whidden finished her college career at Notre Dame tied for fourth on the all-time home run list (35), fifth in slugging percentage (.597), and one of 17 Irish players with a career on-base percentage of .400 or higher (.406).
