Sunshine Library
The school library is integral to and supportive of the school curriculum, and provides a mechanism for exploration beyond the prescribed course of study. The Saint Stephen’s library program provides a wide range of resources and information that satisfy the educational needs and interests of students. The library program supports the curriculum by providing materials and services to all faculty and students. Extensive additions continually occur in all areas of the collection: fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, newspapers, and audiovisual holdings. Requests are encouraged and are added to the collection whenever possible. The library subscribes to online databases and catalogs useful websites; online materials supplement the print collections. They extend the library into classrooms and homes, and they provide immediate access to accurate and authoritative information on a variety of subjects. The mission of the school library media program is to ensure that students and faculty are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:
- by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all format
- by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
- by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students
The library’s vision is an environment where young minds are developed to be effective decision makers, who are motivated, responsible global citizens. All of the facilities are available to our students and faculty, and through their use, we hope to achieve our twofold purpose:
- to teach individuals to be skilled and critical consumers of information
- to create a love of literature and books.
