Middle School
The Middle School at Saint Stephen’s consists of grades 7 and 8. The curriculum is challenging and exciting, providing hands-on experience in each of the academic subjects. Students at this level exercise choice as they progress through the elective program, learning music, art, drama, media production, and language.
Our faculty is a cohesive team of educators who understand with equal expertise the subject matter they teach and the students for whom they are mentors. These caring teachers prepare the students for the challenges of the upper grades, college, and beyond. Each student has an academic advisor who regularly checks on the student’s academic performance and progress. Classes are small so that each student has the opportunity to speak and be heard, and teachers adapt their lessons to the different learning styles of the students so that all will learn to their highest potential.
The Middle School is a safe community in which differences are respected and successes celebrated. Saint Stephen’s Middle School students give back to the world around them by devoting nine days each school year to community service. Small groups of students visit with the elderly or help teach young children in local elementary school programs. Some package seeds for third-world nations or help organize food for Meals on Wheels.
Our students are actively engaged in safeguarding the environment through their knowledge of every aspect of their new “green” Sunlight building. They also actively participate in the school’s recycling program.
Participation in the school’s Atlas Program provides weekly Skype transmissions with students in China and Tanzania. Middle School and Upper School families provide host housing for Chinese students’ annual visits to Saint Stephen’s. These experiences enhance their knowledge and appreciation of the world around them.
Saint Stephen’s Middle School is committed to helping students develop into knowledgeable, responsible, respectful global citizens.
